About Join In Guernsey

Join In Guernsey is a free guide to the clubs, groups, classes and volunteering going on across Guernsey, Alderney and Sark. It brings together what is currently spread across dozens of websites, noticeboards, Facebook pages and leaflets, so it's easier to find something to do and to go along.

It's made for anyone with a bit more time on their hands, whether you've retired, cut back your hours or simply want to get out and meet people. It's also for the family, friends, carers, GPs and social prescribers who help someone find the right thing.

Why we built it

There is a great deal going on in the Bailiwick, but it's hard to find, and published details go out of date quickly. When we asked organisers to check what was published about their groups, around half of the activities they replied about had something wrong, such as a time, a venue, a price or a phone number, or had stopped running. Someone acting on that information could easily turn up to the wrong place, or to nothing at all. Join In Guernsey checks details with the organisers themselves and shows clearly which listings have been confirmed.

The G-Prize

Join In Guernsey is our entry to the G-Prize 2026, a competition run by Innovate Guernsey that asks islanders to build working tools, using AI, to tackle real Guernsey problems. It answers the competition's Active Ageing challenge: matching islanders with activities and social groups that help them stay active, connected and independent. Entries close on 8 November 2026, and we're trialling the site with people in the meantime. It's a working prototype, so you'll find rough edges, and we'd like to hear about them.

Where the information comes from

Listings start from information already published: public directories such as Health Connections, the Guernsey Sports Commission and volunteer.gg, and organisers' own websites. We then ask each organiser to check their listing. Every listing shows how far it has been checked:

Anyone can suggest a new listing. A person checks every suggestion before it appears.

How we use AI

AI tools help us find activities in public sources, spot listings that look out of date, and draft updates. A person reviews and approves every change before it appears on the site. The "top pick" shown after you answer the questions is worked out by simple rules from the details on each listing, not by an AI model, so it can't invent an activity.

We don't collect anything about people who use the site. There are no accounts, and your print list stays in your own browser. See our terms and privacy for the details.

Who runs it

Join In Guernsey is run by The Quarry, Guernsey's independent, reader-funded newsroom, working with Jon Hickman. Every change to every listing is recorded publicly in the site's change history.
